CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

This year KC’s children were with us for Christmas, including 2-year old grand-daughter Lashay, so we put up fewer decorations than last year. Last year, it took me two weeks to get the decorations up and another two weeks to take them down. This year it took 2 DAYS to get them up and one day to put them away. Of course, last year I MADE all the decorations; this year I merely had to get them out of storage.

For the first time in our lives, we bought a faux tree! KC wanted one because of his position at Deloitte with respect to alternate energy – he’s incorporating “green” into as much of our personal life as possible – and I wanted one because I was tired of the mess a real tree created. We bought ours at Costco, a 7.5 footer with 1500 lights, and although we miss the smell of a real tree, we’re getting used to this one.

The tree (and gifts) decorated in red, gold, turquoise and animal prints.

Another thing we did differently this year was the treatment of the stairs. I wasn’t happy with the way we wrapped them with ribbons and lights last year. It took too long to put up and take down and I thought it looked cluttered. So, this year, I used a narrow garland (necessary because of the narrow hallway the stairs run along), wrapped it with lights and attached it to the banister with the same bows we used last year. I like it much better but next year I think I will use more lights since many of them are hidden by the leaves of the garland.

In this shot you can see the bodhran we bought in Dingle hand-painted with the Healy crest.
(And, the newly painted grey walls in the bathroom at the top of the stairs).

The mantle was much simpler this year without the mirror and musical stocking holders.

The new light fixture in the dining room.
Next year I will decorate it, rather than the top of the breakfront.

LASHAY

For some reason, Lashay was terrified of KC and whenever he came near she would either leave the room, burrow into whatever was closest (Mom, pillows, the floor) or she would close her eyes . Here is a picture of what she did when he surprised her alone in the living room. She stayed like this for 5 minutes!

Mom to the rescue

The day before they left, she finally warmed up to him (as long as he kept his hat on).
Here are some shots of them playing:
