The Spiderwick Chronicles Book Four
The Ironwood Tree
My sister and I helped my niece put this diorama together (very quickly, as you will see) and now my sister wants me to sell it to recoup some of her costs.
The diorama depicts a scene from the book where the two brothers (inside the cage) have been captured by evil trolls in an attempt to persuade them (the boys) to trade a book they found (The Fairy Guide) for their sister, captured by the trolls earlier in the book.
The troll king is negotiating with the boys while their sister lies “sleeping” in a coffin, awaiting the trade. She is guarded by the troll king’s henchmen and their fierce dogs. The scene takes place inside a cave (box spray painted silvery black). The trolls work with gold and silver so everything in the cave either gold or silver, including the tree, the coffin, and the dogs.
The teacher was impressed with the diorama, and with her spoken presentation, and asked Dani to leave it overnight so she could show it to the other teachers. I don’t know what kind of grade she got on it.
All the dolls were bought NRFB on eBay. The Kelly and the Tommy in the red pants were originally a bride and groom. The groom’s original suit is also for sale although I don’t have a picture of it. The other Tommy, we don’t know which one he is, was $30 on ebay! Can anyone tell us WHY? My sister was outbid on every individual Tommy doll until she upped her limit to $30+.
The rest of the components were purchased at Michael's and then spray painted either gold or silver. The wheels on the cage were constructed separately and glued on.
All pieces are for sale, either separately or as a set.
PLEASE MAKE ME AN OFFER!
If you were to buy everything below (except the coffin, the box and the tree, which are not worth anything) I could ship them all inside the cage in a priority mail box.
The link below is to the book cover, on Amazon, which we used to design the doll's dress:

The pictures below are self explanatory, I think. However, if you have any questions or would like to see a different angle, please us the button at the bottom to send me an email.
The ‘sleeves’ and other green decorations on Kelly’s dress are satin ribbon, attached with brown thread. Her hair was cut short and then held in place with brown thread. The long braid was glued on and then wrapped with silver embroidery cord. Her “crown” was made from plastic floral bits also held on with brown thread. Her “sword” was fashioned from a black twist tie. Her eyes were repainted to look like they were closed.
The Tommy in the tan pants is “holding” a “book” wrapped in paper. It is actually a piece of paper folded over and over into the appropriate size than the wrapped. It is attached with double-stick tape and easily removable.
The troll king’s crown is cardboard, spray-painted gold. His beard was made from a lock of his hair, glued to his chin (I’m not sure how secure this is). The tree is aluminum foil wrapped around a paper towel roll. The roots and branches are also aluminum foil and they are not permanently attached so that you can arrange them to suit your space.
